Interviste ai Top 8 in inglese
104 planeswalkers entered the countryside of Mirrodin to do battle in today’s Standard format master. This is Magic-League’s first master with the new set, Mirrodin Besieged. Let us meet the 8 planeswalkers that made it to the end:
Weedseed
Name, age, and nationality?
Ettore Spinelli, 18, Italian
What deck have you chosen, and why?
Random Goblins FTW because it wins without lands lol.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
I’m playing goblins; there aren’t so many difficult plays to do. Just draw and attack. Just a little digression: against mengu i did a good play in my opinion stealing his Ember Hauler with my Mark of Mutiny and burn it to deal 2 damage to him while he was at 1 life.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
In MBS there are so much nice cards but too less are good in decks formed yet. Goblins and RDW are the most advantaged in my opinion.
What decks do you think are going to be best in the next few months?
I’m hoping for goblins but it’s utopic. Control will be more powerful and will continue to dominate the meta.
@jfc: return play with legos. A greeting to italy and italians on magic-league
Brasi
Name, age, and nationality?
Carlos Oliveros Guntín, 17, Spanish 🙂
What deck have you chosen, and why?
I am playing UGR “Too lands too furious” because I played it with Mind Spring and I wanted to play with Blue Zenith, and my master Ferre7 like it.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
Don´t remember, but I were having problems against Goblins and UB (2 B Titans in the battlefield) but I won both.
How’s MBS changed T2 so far?
Battlecry, Zeniths and Thrun!!!!!!!!
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
Mmmm… don´t really know … but if this doesn´t change I will play this in Barcelona GP.
Anything else you would like to say?
I will say the same I said … Team Tociclao is going to lead Magic League Ranking. 😉
Wichtelman
Name, age, and nationality?
Robert Darnhofer, 25, Austria (but living in Germany)
What deck have you chosen, and why?
BLADE (mono green aggro), wanted something fast with some equipment.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
Had no difficult play yet.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
Troll! 🙂
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
U/x control ramp and lotus cobra/fauna shaman decks.
Anything else you would like to say?
This time I dont play ww 😛
MR_Thompsom
Name, age, and nationality?
Matias Rodriguez, 22, Argentina
What deck have you chosen, and why?
UBshape because I was bored of T2 decks and ovml passed it to me 2 hours before the master; we made some minor changes, pick a proper sideboard for the most common matchup and good to go.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
Game 3 vs Valakut, he was on the play and came out of the gates fast so I had to choose between turn 4 blind combo him, because I didnt draw a discard spells in case he bring natures claim of cast a Preordain in the hope of a counter/discard so I could counter his titan/see his hand. I chose the first because the odds said so I pulled it off.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
Maybe RG is a little stronger because of the troll and the green zenith, and of course, I have a new deck to play with. XD
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
Honestly I haven’t played a lot of T2 because it bores me to dead, but I guess the top decks will remain dominant with the addition of some cards.
Anything else you would like to say?
grats to psycho who was announced number 1 Boca Jrs FAN of the month.
Pascal3000
Name, age, and nationality?
Pascal Großmann, 18, Germany
What deck have you chosen, and why?
UB Control. Because I wouldnt wanna play this format without at least 6 Jace in my deck and it seemed to have decent answers to the new threats.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
Not just dropping and going to sleep. I’m feeling sick and have been playing terrible all day.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
Valakut decks screwing themselves over by not playing Traps and just replacing them with Green Sun’s Zenith, and more dumb Red Decks with sadly better answers to Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Thrun seems popular, but I definitely think its overrated.
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
I dont really know. I’m not playing T2 much right now. I rather focus on formats that actually require skill and have a diverse metagame (*cough* Legacy *cough). Probably just UB Control, RUG and Red Deck Wins…
Anything else you would like to say?
Love you Tine!
Chefy
Name, age, and nationality?
Bogan, 24, USA
What deck have you chosen, and why? I chose to play Caw Go. The same exact 75 that Brian Kibler finished in the Top 4 of SCG Open San Jose. I looked at Mirrodin Besieged, and while there were some cool cards, I thought it was a huge pile of dookie when it came to UW control. So I just went with Mr. Kibler’s awesome list.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
The hardest play was probably when I was playing against Wichtelman when I had to decide on a Jace play. I could have either Bounce his Leatherback Baloth or Fateseal him. I bounced the Baloth, he dropped 2 Elves, brought back Vengevine, and killed my Jace. If I would have Fatesealed, the Day of Judgment in my hand would have rocked his world. Probably why I lost that match.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
I think MBS is a fairly unexciting set. There are some good cards, but it doesn’t feel like it breaks anything open. It could be busted, but all I see are just different ways of doing the same thing.
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
I think UW Caw Go has the potential to stay up there. RUG is gonna have a little harder of a time. Some of the aggro decks are so fast that it may need to add Pyroclasm, which makes need Clasm and Cobra awkward. Pretty sure Valakut is still a pile of dookie and UB is gonna be there. MBS won’t be changing the world unless there is some obscene poison deck (it’s just sorta good).
I really appreciate the work Mr. Kibler has done on this deck and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdiCJUysIT0
eEnder
Name, age, and nationality?
Camilo J Salas, 28, Spaniard
What deck have you chosen, and why?
I played goblins, but I didnt choose it. I arrived 10 minutes before the beginning of the master, and then I asked Djinn for a deck and he gave this list to me. He played it too. I think the deck is very awful and you need to lucksack all the time. Yes, I did that.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
Mountain, Goblin Guide, attack, go. The deck does not have difficult plays, only difficult decisions in the early games.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
Thrun the last troll and battlecry guys for my deck. I don’t know the impact of MBS at all.
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
UB will continue dominating the format, with new variants like the Shape Anew one.
Anything else you would like to say?
This is my first top 8 since my return to Magic-League 1 year ago. It took me a while and I want be grateful to Djinn for the deck and his usual help in #mtg.es; to my mates in #armada_invencible (nubrichi, marc105,omarvictormanueluisfernandocabrera y tarksito) and to brimstone for a well run master. I would like add #mtg.us it’s a cool place to stay. Took for takes.
Bolha
Name, age, and nationality?
André Silva, 19, Portuguese
What deck have you chosen, and why?
I chose UW because it is the type of deck I feel most comfortable with.
What was the most difficult play so far in this tournament?
When my opponent was at 14 and I had 2 baneslayers, 1 collonade, 5 more mana, and he was all tapped out.
What effect has Mirrodin Besieged had on this Standard format thus far?
Nothing too relevant. It only provides some responses and new threats.
What decks are going to be best in the next few months?
UBControl, UWcombo
Anything else you would like to say?
I want to thank my team for all the playtesting we have been doing so far.
