As we all know, the Premodern format has been experiencing surprising growth in recent months. Despite being a "closed" format, with no new cards entering, it continues to evolve thanks to player innovation. This increased interest has already led to several price spikes, which we've started to report here, and now it's Meditate's turn, driven by its enormous drawing potential.
Meditate is an atypical card: drawing four cards for three mana is an off-the-charts effect, considering it would normally require double the mana. However, the drawback is very heavy, as it forces you to skip your next turn. In many contexts, this is too high a price, but there are ways to circumvent it. In strategies based on a single explosive turn, such as Storm archetypes, the next turn often doesn't even exist, effectively making the penalty irrelevant.
It's precisely in this type of shell that the card finds new life. In Premodern decks based on Brain Freeze, Meditate becomes an extremely efficient draw engine, especially when supported by cost-reduction effects like Sapphire Medallion or Helm of Awakening. Under these conditions, it can cost one or two mana, making it one of the most efficient draw spells ever printed. It's no surprise, then, that many Storm lists are starting to play three or four copies, driving demand sky-high.
From a financial perspective, the situation is equally interesting. As a Reserved List card, Meditate has limited availability, especially in near-mint condition. This makes it particularly sensitive to sudden increases in demand. Until a few months ago, it was easily found for under €10, but with the rise of Premodern, the price has quickly climbed to around €20–25 on the European market, with copies in worse condition still above €12–15. In some more extreme cases, even higher peaks have been observed.
However, doubt remains about the sustainability of this spike. It's not the first time Meditate has increased in price: in past years, it has already had several peaks, often stabilizing between €20 and €30. This could represent a sort of "psychological ceiling" for the market. If Premodern continues to grow, the price could remain stable or rise slightly further; otherwise, a correction cannot be ruled out.
In any case, Meditate is a card to keep an eye on. It has proven to have a real role in the format and still partly unexplored potential. As often happens with Premodern, the line between hype and consolidation is thin, and only the coming weeks will tell if this spike will be lasting or just another flare-up.
