Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set is the first Secret Lair release sold in random booster packs, a radical format change from traditional open-selection drops. The set is a collaboration between Secret Lair and MSCHF, a Brooklyn-based art collective, and reinterprets 121 cards with an aesthetic inspired by the mythical 1992 Gamma playtest cards, handmade with newspaper clippings and makeshift materials.
Each pack costs $19.92, another homage to Magic's birth year, and contains 7 cards: 3 commons, 2 uncommons, one rare or mythic, and one random rarity wildcard. The cards come in three distinct graphic treatments—Photocopy, Photocopy Negative, and Color Banding—designed to recreate the printing imperfections of the game's origins.
Among the most interesting reprints are Chrome Mox, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and several cards sought after in Legacy and Commander. Some cards typically rare or mythic have been downshifted to common or uncommon, but as confirmed by Gavin Verhey on behalf of the Pauper Format Panel, this will not alter their legality in Pauper.
The Zeta Set will be available starting September 2 at 12:00 PM ET exclusively through the Secret Lair Chaos Vault, with a purchase limit of 12 packs per customer while supplies last.
